The Symantec™ Wildcard SSL Certificate provides SSL encryption on multiple sub-domains using a single certificate with up to 256-bit encryption, $500,000 warranty and the Norton™ Secured Seal.
For example, a wildcard certificate issued to Company ABC using the Common Name ("*.CompanyABC.com") may be used to secure the following sub-domains:
- login.companyABC.com
- payment.companyABC.com
- support.companyABC.com
- anythingyouwant.companyABC.com
Wildcard certificates are extremely convenient and can be extremely cost-effective; however some limitations do exist, which include the following:
- If for whatever reason, your wildcard certificate must be revoked, all of your sub-domains will also need a new certificate.- Sometimes wildcard certificates do not work perfectly with some older server-client configurations. Not typical, but still exists.
The Norton™ Secured Seal is the most trusted mark on the internet and is viewed half a billion times per day on websites in 170 countries. The Symantec Seal-in-Search displays the Norton Secured Seal next to your link on browsers enabled with a free plug-in as well as on partner shopping sites and product review pages.
